#10 Tips for caring for your new pet

A healthy pet is a happy pet! Taking care of your new pet at home is essential for its lifetime. Regardless of the breed, age or sex, your pet should be treated and offered with the basic needs and the best comfort. Here are 10 tips that could help caring for your new pet:

#1 Provide a safe and clean environment

Make sure to welcome your pet in a clean and hygienic environment. Providing them with a good and comfortable shelter, whether outdoor or indoor, will let it feel safe. Your pet needs protection from weather conditions and can’t be exclusively left in the yard. It should as well as be protected from germs and bacteria in a tidy location.

#2 Give access to fresh water 24/7

Fresh, clean drinking water is vital for your pet. It must have open access to its water bowl, to stay cool and prevent from getting dehydrated, especially during summer days.

#3 Provide healthy food on a regular basis

Your pet needs to be fed as recommended by the vet who will provide you with the information on the specific nutrients and calories your dog may need each day based on his breed, age, lifestyle and body condition. Every nutrient in your pet’s food has the purpose of providing adequate nutrition. A good balance of protein, carbohydrates and fats will help provide strong muscles, support digestion, and boost your pet’s overall immune system.

#4 Schedule regular visit at the veterinary

Veterinary care is very important. Like humans, your pet needs annual checkups to detect any illnesses or even prevent life-threatening conditions. Given your pet’s short lifespan, taking your pet to the vet at least once a year will help you provide it with the best possible quality of life. If your pet misses its annual visit, it may be prone to rabies, fleas, ticks, heartworm, or other diseases. However, during the first months of your puppies and kittens, frequent checkups are required.

#5 Don’t miss its vaccination plans and schedules

Prevention is better than cure! Vaccinating your pet is essential to protect itself against dangerous viruses and viral diseases. It is necessary to have your pet vaccinated every year, according to its age and as recommended by the vet. However, during the first months of your puppies and kittens, regular vaccinations are required to help them grow healthy.

#6 Dental Care

Try brushing your pets’ teeth regularly, principally your dog, with a convenient toothbrush and toothpaste made for dogs. You can also use dental tooth wipes or dental chews. These will help prevent tartar accumulation, dental disease, and bad breath. Make this as part of your pet normal routine, after sometimes, it can be a fun activity for your pet.

#7 Exercise your pet

Your pet needs to be exercised daily for at least half an hour. It is crucial for dogs to have an exercise routine to maintain a healthy lifestyle. If not, it can suffer from obesity and other illnesses and won’t be physically active. For example, you can play the game of fetch or tug of war with your dog, practice jogging or even go for a walk.

#8 Regular bathing, grooming and nail trimming

Regular bathing, grooming and nail trimming have significant health benefits on your pet. Bathing, grooming, and combing help reduce grease in its coat. Too much grease can block the pores and cause irritations. Additionally, trim nails represent one clear sign that your dog's good health and hygiene is stable.

#9 Avoid snacking and human foods

It is imperative not to give salty snacking and sugary food such as chocolate to your pet as this may cause health complications such as vomiting and diarrhea, and seizure in pets.

#10 Give love

Your pet needs a lot of affection and support when it comes to handling it! Talk calmly to your pet so it can feed on your energy, good vibes, and positive attitude. Playing regularly with its feet, ears, and mouth, will help in desensitizing these areas and will make it easier, and less stress, when visiting the vet.

We hope these tips will help you provide the necessities and maintain a quality health and lifestyle to your new pet. Make them part of your regular pet parenting role.

Remember that for better pet advice, it is recommended to see your vet.
